ABOUT ME

I am a sophomore studying economics with a dual minor in applied statistics and writing. Based on that background, I guess it makes sense why I did a statistics writing project about money. While my current dream job is in finance, I wouldn't be shocked if I became a rapper myself one day or a producer making some hard beats for the rappers of the future. Maybe I could do both. The CEO of Goldman Sachs is also a DJ on the side, so I guess its possible. I hope this project was informative and thought-provoking, even though the there isn't much context behind the numbers I have provided. That was done by design to encourage you to look at the lyrics for these songs and watch the music videos on your own. You will notice that the war for the lyrical heart of hip-hop has begun. I personally listen to both styles, but acknowledge that the consumeristic lyrics DO indirectly hurt black communities. There are lasting social impacts from both styles of hip-hop, demonstrated by Kendrick Lamar winning the Pulitzer Prize for DAMN and J Cole's recent criticism of the trap rappers:

And plus, you havin' fun and I respect that
But have you ever thought about your impact?
These white kids love that you don't give a fuck
'Cause that's exactly what's expected when your skin black
They wanna see you dab, they wanna see you pop a pill
They wanna see you tatted from your face to your heels
And somewhere deep down, fuck it, I gotta keep it real
They wanna be black and think your song is how it feels

So when you turn up, you see them turnin' up too
You hit the next city, collect your money when it's due

You gettin' that paper, swimmin' in bitches, I don't blame you
You ain't thinkin' 'bout the people that's lookin' like me and you
